26.11.08, Mumbai

For so many of us, though far away from our home country, it is heart wrenching to look at the videos and pics from 26/11 at Mumbai online.
While the terrorists plundered with state of the art ammunition and guns, our police were doing their best with .303 rifles..Did you know that these rifles were the standard since 1889.. It is surprising how little we are concerned about the lives of people who defend us. And how little to nothing of our budget is alloted to secure state of the art machinery and vests for every constable and police in our country.
There was an idea of coming up with a central agency after Kargil for our national security that can foresee all the different states, but why that didn't come true is not known to me.
There are so many organizations that stand for human rights, I wonder how many such organizations exist that can take up this cause. May be that is something we should play an active role in.
I really hope that this does not result in any riots and my people stand as a nation in confronting the situation at hand.
It is not the time to blame but the time to stop, get a handle of the situation and make steps to move forward, than just bicker.
They say time is a great healer, but I pray that we never forget such acts of terrorism as it will help us work towards strengthening our country's internal security on all grounds.

Here are the names of all the innocent people who lost their lives during this gruesome attack.

A new phase

May 14th, 2010 was another big moment in my life... I graduated with a Ph.D in Math. I have learned so much in these last few years apart from just Math. Have grown so much as a person, which, I must attribute to all the people with whom I have been associated with along the way. The road was bumpy at times, there were moments when I cried but there were many more when I laughed and have been very happy. Like Miley says, "It's all about the climb" and I have enjoyed every minute of it. If you haven't heard this song, you should. It is very motivational and I'll always remember listening to it every morning on my walk to school. I have been very lucky along the way in meeting some wonderful people, from whom I have learned a lot and I am sure they never realized that their actions good or bad were actually teaching me something. Tulane's unified commencement ceremony was as usual superb! Anderson Cooper delivered such a wonderful speech. You ca...
Did you know : The Rock of Gibraltar also called as the "Pillar of Hercules" is a monolithic limestone whose geological formation took place when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth... It was formed as a result of the collision between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates... For more information : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_of_Gibraltar Many a times, somebody very close to me has compared my strength to this rock, and today I decided to look it up, and thought it would be interesting to launch my blog by sharing this information... Presently working on my Ph.D in Applied Mathematics, I have found little time to exercise my creative energies. So I am hoping that this blog spot will motivate and encourage me to do just that... More in my next..

What's on the news today?

A few weeks ago, when in Atlanta, Arun and I watched this Hindi movie "Rann" which is all about the role of the media in today's world and how it has evolved... Some of the points elucidated in the movie are so obvious for us to see in our everyday lives. One of the things being, how we fabricate the most common insignificant occurrences into either a debacle or wonder. We create all the hype so it has a large audience and of course the inflow from advertising... An example would be, a major news channel who was airing the Nobel peace prize ceremony of President Obama and in the middle of it suddenly turned their attention to the balloon flying in the Colorado sky. Even without proper evidence that there could be somebody in it, they had a bunch of people weighing in on what would happen if it were true. In the end it turned out to be a hoax and I would have missed the award ceremony if not for another channel. Recently in the news has been Tiger Woods. At his cost every ...
