Gitanjali

I have been wanting to read 'Gitanjali' for a very long time... I finally am reading a translation of Tagore's work this summer. Hope to share some of the poems here on my blog.. Here is a poem that most of us might have read in school... This was written during the time when India was fighting for it's independence.  W HERE the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments By narrow domestic walls Where words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit Where the mind is led forward by thee Into ever-widening thought and action Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. Most of the poems in 'Gitanjali', are conversations the poet has with God, and his ever striving attempt to be one with him.  More soon...
